Water Official Says Oso Water OK For Irrigation

by MissionViejoDispatch.com on November 4, 2009

Santa Margarita Water District General Manager John Schatz appeared at the Monday MV Council Meeting to acknowledge the odor problem emanating from Oso Reservoir.  He said the District hoped the problem would subside over the next week.  Additional oxygen is being added to the water with aeration equipment and some potable water is being introduced to the reservoir.

Schatz disagreed that it was necessary for the City to suspend irrigating with the Oso water.  He claimed water released for irrigation isn’t infected with the offensive odor because it receives additional treatment and attains a higher standard.  The City has not announced how long it will delay irrigating with the water.
