A meet-and-greet is being hosted for OC Sheriff candidate Bill Hunt in Mission Viejo Wednesday evening. Hunt is the former Chief of Police Services for the City of San Clemente. The event is not a campaign fundraiser, so guests are advised to “leave their wallets at home.”
Hunt has announced his intention to run against Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens in next year’s election. He ran unsuccessfully in 2006 against his former boss, Sheriff Mike Carona, but was demoted by Carona after the acrimony of that campaign.
Hunt recently received the endorsement of the popular sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona. Joe Arpaio is well-known nationally for his get-tough policies toward illegal immigrants and prisoners. Arpaio was in Orange County earlier this month supporting Bill Hunt.
Hunt will speak on the overall condition of the OC Sheriffs Department; morale in the rank & file; the effect of a pending 20,000 state prisoner release, and will provide an update on the continuing problems in the OC Jail. He will then spend time in Q&A.
The get-together begins at 6 pm Thursday 11/12 at the Murray Community Center.

When asking Bill Hunt if he would cease the problems of motorcycle officers hiding/parking their motorcycles on sidewalks in Mission Viejo, Hunt equivocated. He would not answer the question with a straight forward NO, or Yes.
I don’t believe Bill Hunt is the person this community can rely on.
I don’t think he “failed” the question; he was clear when he said you have to go to the MV Chief, and pound on his desk, and he will listen.
I don’t know that he “Passed” by saying “I will stop it day one” but he did address it, and didn’t dodge the question. It is also a very local issue, so I think it may have caught him off guard.
He did make it clear that he would be available to the public, so I assume we could go pound on HIS desk, if we didn’t get the satisfaction we were looking for from the chief.
