Letter: Shades?! Knock Me Over With A Feather!

by MissionViejoDispatch.com on November 17, 2009

Can we please just stop the financial bleeding and give each council member an eight week course in Reality Check 101?! Maybe when the economic storm is over, we can talk about shades at our high schools for the football games or whatever. [Re: Ury's New Spending Urge]

I have four boys who were/are in all kinds of sports (football, baseball, soccer) and we took our own umbrellas and easy-ups for shade. Yeah, it’s hot sometimes, so plan ahead and invest in a couple of $15 dollar umbrellas from Costco and an umbrella stand (one of our Mission Viejo residents makes these to sell for a small price for the fields). Or get a mallet (what I have) and set up before the game. Let’s not create any more financial burdens for those of us who are financially sliding into more debt created by our not so savvy government spenders at all levels.

Could we please just stop the madness and get some government leaders in office who are willing to ponder what the ramifications are to the taxpayers and whose dollars are really paying for such extravagances? Geez!! A feather could have knocked me over on this one!

We need to start with the State Government. They are planning to take 2.4 million dollars from Mission Viejo soon. The cut backs have to start at the top which is Washington DC amd Sacramento.

[Editor's Note: The $2.4 million loan to the State was sold by MV to the Ca Community Development Financing Agency, which in turn sold the receivable as bonds to investors. That means the City Treasury was reimbursed and is not being depleted by the loan.]

While we need to clean up at the state level too, this is no excuse for not taking action at home where we have the power to do so. Our City Council has been very loose with our dollars. It is time that the spending spree ends and those funds stay where they will be available for necessary upcoming maintenance. Yet our Council keeps spending on would-be-nice-to-haves like there is no tomorrow!

Shades at our local sports venues is only the latest proposed lunacy! The fiscal irresponsibility of our Council has been remarkable and it is high time that an end is put to it. If Ury can’t take the heat he should get out of the kitchen! Or bring an umbrella!
