Troop 603 and its Leaders, Chris Talamo and Jeff Smith, performed patriotic service last week by helping the local Elks lodge in conducting a respectful gathering of old and tattered American flags. The boys are an Elks Chartered Scout Troup.
The flags must be folded into an exact military triangle before they can be retired. This year over 300 flags were collected in the Mission Viejo area.
“This is no small task, but the Boys were terrific.” said Elks Scouting Chairman Dennis Lumley. “ They never let ‘Old Glory’ touch the ground. Good job Scouts, we’re very proud of you and thank you for your help.”
This month the Elks Lodge joined nine other Lodges in the Orange Coast District in conducting the formal Retirement Ceremony where over 3,000 flags were honored.

Yay! Love those scouts!
What a great way to teach respect for your country, its veterans and your fellow citizens. To teach that the flag should be respected as much or more at its time of destruction as it was during its service.
If your boy is not a scout, go visit a local troop and you will see an amazing organization that turns boys into men. WOW!
I am very proud of what these young men have done and feel honored to have been part of this caring, respectful, and patriotic troop.
