The Dispatch previously reported the sales tax revenue decline in the third quarter. The City has now provided the following detail identifying the decreases according to the location of particular commercial centers:
New car sales as a group were up 1%! (approximately $4,000). Three of the six dealers posted increases; the other three had decreases.
The Shops’ [at Mission Viejo] sales tax revenue for 3rd quarter 2009 was down 10% (about $85,000) compared to 3rd quarter 2008. The Mission Viejo Freeway Center’s sales tax performance declined by 10% (-$21,000). Kaleidoscope was down 25% (-$12,000).
These four areas of the City’s retail tax base in total were responsible for 42% of total sales tax generation this past quarter. The combined net decrease for these four geographic areas of -$114,000 was just a 7.4% decline, compared to the overall City decline of 13.77%.

I wanted to thank the Dispatch for publishing this information. We would never see this information in the Register or other news outlets. Thanks.
To our City councils spenders and You know who you are:
Why are we still talking about a tennis center and a dog park and not concentrating on the MV city slopes? Now is certainly the time to buckle up and tighten the seat belt. Revise the budget for the coming year and concentrate on necessities.
JUST DO IT.
