Potholes in our streets can cause damage when neglected by cities, i.e. tire blowouts, sidewall damage, punctures, front wheel alignment, cracked rims, and could cause a wreck. It is imperative that cities fullfill their responsibility by repairing immediately. We can assist our city by notifying it of any pothole location as soon as possible so it can be repaired. Report online or call the pothole hotline at 470-8405.

The city likely will boast that Mission Viejo has many fewer potholes than Santa Ana or Fullerton–for now. But the Register article linked above gives an insight into what our streets will look like within a decade unless the city council stops wasteful spending like shades for bleachers and begins spending serious money reconstructing both our deteriorating streets and slopes.
Older cities up north are suffering from even more years of neglect. The Register article shows how pounding rains like those we’ve been experience the last few weeks seep into the street infrastructure to cause further damage (meanwhile soil is eroding from barren slopes along Marguerite Parkway):
In Fullerton, Berkeley Avenue between Harbor Boulevard and Chapman Avenue had 10 or more potholes earlier this week. “That’s where the city has put down slurry seal, not reconstructed the road,” said Daniel Diaz, street superintendent.
Fullerton Engineering Director Don Hoppe said slurry seal work has a one-year warranty. “Slurry is a minor seal for a little while that holds the glue of the asphalt together,” Hoppe said. “It’s not a structural repair; it’s a maintenance repair.”
Cracks are getting worse in the Mission Viejo subdivisions of myself and four other conservative activists who oppose the diversion of infrastructure funds to projects that are conveniences to a minority of citizens. For sum cracks began re-appearing within a year of slurry sealing. The pavement is worse on major thoroughfares in the heart of the city with both cracks and rubble where incessant traffic has worn the asphalt down to rubble, particularly on the inside lanes.
I called and left a message via phone. On La Barca from Jornada to Marguerite Parkway there are approx 23 pot holes of various sizes; a couple being 4 inches to 12 inches in length–and some about 6 square inches in size.
Street maintenace in this area has deteriorated in the last 6 years.
People are so unreasonable – they should, without questioning our city council, accept and realize that Rose Parade floats, lavish tennis club enhancements, electronic sigh boards, and sun shades for little league fans are certainly far more important than fixing our streets and proper maintenance of our city’s slopes.
