MacLean Threatens Lawsuit Against Registrar

by MissionViejoDispatch.com on February 8, 2010

It turns out Lance MacLean’s request for a recount was accompanied by a legal threat to the OC Registrar of Voters. MacLean’s letter was faxed this afternoon and states:

My consultant Mr. Scott Taylor will be contacting you shortly to initiate the review of the ballots. Further, I have retained the services of an election attorney for advice on my recourse with the Registrar of Voters office regarding the use of illegally gathered signatures that were accepted and used by your office to qualify this recall election. . . . Please be on notice that I intend to avail myself to all legal remedies including civil suits in the event your office certifies the election and it is later determined that recall proponents unlawfully perjured themselves and submitted signatures collected illegally to qualify what would then constitute a fraudulent election.

No sooner did this story break on the Dispatch before the OC Weekly quotes Lance complaining that his letter was posted on this blog “mere minutes after MacLean had faxed his original request to [Registrar of Voters] Kelley.”

Reporters were on top of this story. There was no leak of a public document nor were there any “shenanigans” on the part of the recall proponents in your Feb 2 19-vote defeat.

Well, here’s the problem; lawsuits cost a lot of money. Who’s going to pay MacLean’s way?

Dave Leckness, who won to re-seat MacLean, seems to be an acceptable choice for the city manager, Ury & Kelley. Leckness is probably an extremely agreeable choice suitable to the police and firefighter’s union; as well as all the special interest and waste management companies vying for lucrative city contracts.

So, unless MacLean has some awfully loyal and wealthy personal friends, I just can’t reason who would actually come forward to fund all of MacLean’s threats.

This just seems to be same song, second verse … “I am right, the rest of the world is out of step.” I can easily see that Mr. MacLean has some social behavior problems but what I can’t see is why he is apparently unable to control himself a little better. I work with children and they “get it” more quickly than he does!

Lances’ actions define him !!

One would hope with all the problems in this world Lance could rise above these types of self indulgent actions. Lance has again turned on those who recently helped him.

I pray for his soul.

OCSD union president Wayne Quint, who spent around $100,000 supporting Lance, cannot justify any additional campaign related expenditures, especially as Dave Leckness prevailed last Wed.

Throwing Dave Leckness under the bus is a perfect illustration of Lance’s ongoing anger managment problems. There was no reason to say anything negative about Dave in Lance’s phone call with [OC Weekly reporter] Spencer. Show some class towards Dave and simply accept the outcome.

During the election we saw Dave standing in front of a huge banner at the ARCO station on LaPaz that read “vote NO on recall and vote for Dave.” Sadly Dave Leckness has just experienced the same chameleon attitude of Lance that many of us experienced right after the 2002 election when many of us supported Lance for city council.

I knew it. Here we go, raging bull all the way. This will cost his cronies some dough. Will they stand by their man? I wouldn’t. Lots of qualified people could do his job.
