Mayor Concedes; Cancels Recall Recount

   After a week-long tirade following the February 2 election, Mayor Lance MacLean has thrown in the towel. Late Tuesday he withdrew the request he made Monday for a recount of the votes in the recall election.  The recount was scheduled by Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley to commence at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

MacLean Threatens Lawsuit Against Registrar

February 8, 2010

   It turns out Lance MacLean’s request for a recount was accompanied by a legal threat to the OC Registrar of Voters. MacLean’s letter was faxed this afternoon and states:

My consultant Mr. Scott Taylor will be contacting you shortly to initiate the review of the ballots. Further, I have retained the services of an election attorney [...]

MacLean Wants Recount

February 8, 2010

   Lance MacLean today informed the Registrar of Voters (ROV), Neal Kelley, that he intends to formally request a recount before today’s 5 p.m. deadline. Kelley told the Dispatch a recall would begin this week.
