Library: Story Time Bids To Be Rejected

by MissionViejoDispatch.com on December 31, 2011

The bids to remodel the Story Time Room at the Library came back within budget, but on Tuesday the Council will reject all bids and advertise for new proposals. The low bid by Optima RPM of $338,000 for the 1,800 square foot refurbish was $29,000 less than the amount budgeted.

The City’s bidding process on projects has been frequently hampered by challenges and other bid problems over the past year.  Two of the eight bidders challenged Optima’s bid for alleged irregularities.

1) Why do we need to waste so much model remodeling a room in such a new building?

2) That is a great deal of money to spend in such a small space. What are Earth are they going to do?

3) How much less would the work cost if so-called “prevailing wages” did not have to be paid. On many construction projects, the “prevailing wages” double or triple the project cost. Just in case anyone does not know, this is for the same workers doing the exact same work.
