A new non-profit counseling service has opened in Mission Viejo for parents of young children.
The Child Guidance Center (CGC) offers Parent-Child Interaction Therapy to build relationships between parents and their children ages 2-10. Observing from behind a one-way mirror, a therapist coaches a parent through a wireless earphone in the parent’s ear, providing specific instructions for relating with or managing the child’s behavior.
The brief-term program is aimed at eliminating negative behaviors in children, decreasing parental stress and improving parenting skills. The therapist provides responses to a child’s behavior as it occurs.
While the program was previously dedicated to at-risk families, the MV facility offers the program at an hourly rate for all families. Traditional counseling services are also available.
Proceeds from the Mission Viejo PCIT program will help provide counseling services for at-risk families. Phone 949-582-3958.
