Code enforcement is almost non-existent in older Mission Viejo. I have neighbors running an auto repair, rehab business in the street & driveway – it’s a mess. They park up and down the street and the junkers drip oil as bad as the blowout in the Gulf. HOAs are a financial drain but they do control this type of eyesore. MV City needs to take a harder line on these folks. BTW – I’m a car lover but my neighborhood is residential not commercial.

To Ken I would say, “Vote out the Incumbents at city hall.” All they care about are Character Programs, useless words of the month, attending spelling bees, and their fundraising. The average citizen is on their own concerning code enforcement.
Instead of voting out the incumbants which is always Joe’s answer, let the City know there is a problem. I go to all of the City Council meetings and have not heard one work about this. Use your head and do the right and normal thing to get issues out.
It’s true, you have to contact the city and let them know. I to live in one of the older areas and while I don’t want to be a snitch, if you care call em up. It works, I’ve been on the receiving end because of my RV. (code enforcement)
I guess Joyce Saltzgiver missed the multiple times that the folks in Mission Ridge came to the council with their specifics on the lack of the city’s code enforcement. Perhaps Joyce could go to the archived city meetings and see the problems. If Joyce has a problem retrieving the archived material I would be happy to help her.
Typical straw man by Mr. Holtzman. Has Mr. Stone ever gone to the City to complain about his problem? If not, he has nothing to complain about but his own inaction. I know Mr. Holtzman will use any shred to attack the Council majority, but this is pretty thin, even for him.
Mr Woodard attacks without doing his own homework–again.
Perhaps Mr. Woodard would call Chuck Wilson and find out the many times I have assisted Chuck with specifics on Code Enforcement items. As the former Architectural Chairman of the biggest HOA in the city I worked diligently to address these issues – before they became problems. Unfortunately most of the city does not have an HOA to assist them, so they must turn to the city.
Thanks to Mr. Holtzman for making my point – with another non sequitor. I don’t care about his efforts on Code Enforcement unless they apply to Mr. Stone’s problem. My point/question, clearly set forth, was whether Mr. Stone had reported his problem to City staff or not. If he has not, how can he, or Mr. Holtzman, expect them to know about it?
[Editor's Note: Agreed it needed to be reported if the City was unaware. However, Code Enforcement patrols the City in pickups, writing warnings and tickets for basketball hoops on the sidewalk, pulling up campaign signs, and identifying egregious code violations. Due to shifts in financial resources and lax priority for code enforcement, there is an issue of whether enough attention is being paid. A retired commissioner offered to volunteer his help due to the personnel shortage, but was declined. Many residents expect enforcement to remedy obvious situations so they don't have to rat out their neighbors.]
Mr Woodard makes my point with his non sequitor. He ignores a real problem in Mission Viejo by hiding behind a myopic view.
Mr. Woodard does not do his homework about code enforcement!! Has he made calls to city hall–it does not appear he has !!
