Three Power Outages Hit Mission Viejo

Power Outage candle    Three power outages hit Mission Viejo in the past few days.  A large contingent of So Cal Edison trucks and equipment was seen along the Los Alisos corridor during the series of events.  The source of all the problems turned out to be faulty equipment in the manhole next to Los Alisos Intermediate School at Los Alisos and Muirlands. 

   About 1,500 homes mostly north of Jeronimo were down for a short period Wednesday morning and again during a 2-hour outage on Sunday afternoon.  A 4-hour lapse on Saturday evening hit 2,600 customers south of Jeronimo.  The root cause was finally remedied at about 10 p.m. Sunday.  Here’s a list of the three incidents:

  • Date/Time: 08/18/2010 – 08:15 a.m. / power restored 8:31 a.m.
  • Customers affected: 1540 customers
  • Communities affected: Mission Viejo and Lake Forest
  • Cause/location if known: The manhole with the faulty equipment is located at Muirlands Bl. and Los Alisos Bl.

 

  • Date/Time: 08/19/2010 – 5:57 p.m. / power came back on in stages through 10:08 p.m.
  • Customers affected: 2621
  • Communities affected: Mission Viejo and Lake Forest
  • Cause/location if known: As above

 

  • Date/Time: 08/22/2010 – 3:50 p.m. / power came back on stages through 6 p.m.
  • Customers affected: 1579
  • Communities affected: Mission Viejo and Lake Forest
  • Cause/location if known: Cable failure; equipment ran through same manhole as above.
