Triathlon Best of US

“Best of the U.S.” is a national annual triathlon tournament to find the best two amateur triathletes in each of the 50 states, one man and one woman.  Those 100 state champions will be competing in the OC International Triathlon which takes place in MV this Sunday.  The best finisher will be crowned Best of the U.S. Amateur Triathlete Champion of 2009.

Each year, from April through September America’s top amateurs compete in a state-by-state, single-elimination tournament for the chance to represent their state in the most talent-rich, competitive Amateur Championship.

Each state has just one Qualifier Race. Athletes qualify only in their home state. There is just one chance each year to be State Champion and earn a berth at the Best of the U.S. National Championship.

The 100 state qualifiers will be in a separate wave from the other 900 contestants who are competing in age group categories.  The California winners, Stefani Dixon-McMillen and Michael Sevier, earned their places in July at the Pacific Coast Triathlon in Newport Beach.

It is a tribute to the MV course and the private organizers, the Pelican Coast Events Group, to be selected as hosts for the BOUS Championship in only the second year of the MV OC Triathlon.
