OC Triathlon This Weekend: Schedule & Road Closings

   The modern OC Triathlon will take place in MV for the second consecutive year this Sunday.  Athletes will first swim Lake Mission Viejo, then compete on bikes riding into Santiago Canyon.  Bikers will return to the Aliso Creek Trail adjacent to Saddleback Church where they will make the final transition, running through MV streets and trails to the finish at Lake Mission Viejo.  Following is the event schedule and road closures:

ATHLETES’ SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

   Saturday, September 26– Set Up

  • 7am – 6:30 pm – Race Set Up (Volunteers Welcome, contact Bill Leach-billleach@sbcglobal.net)
  • 10am – 4:30pm Packet Pick Up/ Expo at our Host Hotel, Courtyard Marriott; present USAT ID, or sign waiver and purchase one day license (mandatory)
  • 10am & 2:00pm Course Talks
  • 10am – 5:00pm Running Equipment Drop-off at T2 (mandatory)

   Sunday, September 27– RACE DAY

  • 5:00 am – Swim/Bike Transition Area opens
  • 6:30 am – Transition area closes, parking lot access closes. Proceed to Swim start area for national anthem and prerace announcements
  • 7:00 am –RACE START– Pro/elite, then USAT age group waves 3-5 minutes apart. Older age groups in early waves.
  • 8:20 am- Bike Transition area closes- must be on bikes by this time per permit requirement.
  • 10:30 am – Awards Presentation and Breakfast Buffet Party at the BEACH!!!
  • 1:00 pm – Bike Transition Area closes for clean up. All bikes/gear are to be removed. NOTE: Please mark all personal gear and be careful to pick up. Do Not Park On El Toro Road!!! use Mammoth Office lots.

ROAD CLOSURES

  • Marguerite Parkway: La Barca to El Toro Rd. {0700-0830 hours}
  • Marguerite Parkway: Vista del Lago to La Barca {0530-1100 hours}
  • Los Alisos Blvd: Via Noveno to Entidad {0830-1030 hours}
  • Olympiad Road: Melinda Rd to Marguerite {0530-1200hours} note: Melinda Rd. to entrance to Lake MV will remain opened to athletes and lake members.

   All intersection crossings indicated by black dots on the map below will be closed during the road closures. Additional intersections may incur delays.

I hope all of the athletes belong to the Lake Mission Viejo Association. Otherwise they may not be allowed into the Lake’s pristine waters.
