Maps Identify MV High Fire Threat

by MissionViejoDispatch.com on February 3, 2012

On Monday the City Council will adopt an ordinance identifying almost 1,000 parcels in Mission Viejo as Very High Fire Threat areas. The ordinance is required under state law to assist fire agencies in creating preventative measures.

The zone includes housing tracts north of the 241 toll road and along the eastern border of the City, including some homes in the upscale Canyon Crest and Stoneridge associations. The parcels will be indentified in a notice provided by the City to the County Recorder, County Assessor  ad OC Planning Department.

A city Very High Risk fire map and detail maps can be viewed by clicking here. The City also has the option of identifying parcels in High and Moderate risk areas (map), but staff is recommending against including those areas within an ordinance.

What can the people in the high fire risk areas do? I think nothing. What can the city do? There must be ways of mitigating the risk. For instance clearance of brush on hillsides.

One other thing. There are some sick people out there and this is like a set of instructions for those fire bugs who like to endanger us all with their sick addiction.

The City Councl meeting was rather revealing: Trish Kelley long knew of this problem and never said anything. In addition residents were not noticed properly.

There was considerable double talk by the OC Fire Authority representative, and our City Attorney talked a lot, and said little of value.

Hang on folks for higher, or even no insurance when this is all said and done.
