A brush fire erupted next to homes Monday evening on the slope of a reservoir above Alicia Park. The fire exploded when it hit a tree, creating a spectacular blaze (video) and sending a shower of sparks skyward adjacent to Via Cuervo residences.
Neighbors used hoses to shoot water on brush burning along their property line. By the time seven fire vehicles arrived, including a hook & ladder truck, the tree blaze had degenerated into a plume of smoke, and the fire department quickly mopped up the brush fire within about fifteen minutes. There were no homes damaged and no injuries.
Firefighters suspected the fire originated from hot fireplace coals deposited by a Via Cuervo resident in his backyard.
