Letter: Wall Of Fame

by MissionViejoDispatch.com on September 22, 2009

I never met Marty Russo, nor did I even know who he was until I read the proposal to rename the Youth Athletic Park to honor him. (Re: Workshop)

Given that we already have buildings and streets being named after other luminaries (such as the Norman P. Murray Center), this would seem like a precedent-following cause.  But what will we do to honor deserved people when we run out of buildings or streets? Would a person after whom a building or a park is named not be remembered more than someone after whom a simple cul-de-sac street is named?

Why not spend the money to create a wall-of-fame, and inscribe the name of each person worthy of being remembered? It’ll be cheaper, and more easily expandable. Mileen Holland has the right idea!

I love this idea. Not because it is cheaper, but because it would put all the names of those worthy of remembering in one place, and it would allow our community the opportunity to show honor in an ongoing, growing, yet eco-friendly way. Perhaps a wall could go in the courtyard of the MV Library/City Hall. It would be on display and reviewed by our citizens who visit these venues, and it would be an excellent backdrop to all the events that are held there. Kudos to creative thinkers Kamath and Holland. Which Council member wants to run with this? Hopefully, all.

Great idea! Sounds like the way to go.
