Dr. Mike Kennedy is a well-known local physician and surgeon, a professor at USC, and a former President of the Orange County Medical Association. He is author of the book, A Brief History of Disease, Science and Medicine, which carries a readers’ five-star rating on Amazon. He also writes a superb online publication, A Brief History, sharing his fascination, studies and analyses of state, national and global political history.
More to the point, Dr. Kennedy is a former MV Planning Commissioner and concerned citizen. On Monday he reflected on the modern political history of his Mission Viejo, focusing on public reporting by the traditional newspapers, especially the OC Register. Click here to read his piece on Newspapers and local politics. An interesting response was submitted Tuesday by Bradley Fikes of the North [San Diego] County Times.

Congratulations to Mike on his blog, with excellent postings. He was a tireless advocate for limited, open government in Mission Viejo City Hall as a fellow member of the Committee for Integrity in Government.
Notice that the Dispatch promoted Dr Kenney’s writings, rather than treating them as competition. That is a big advantage in community coverage by blogs. They support each other in the effort to make city government more accountable to the people it serves.
The Register is on the outside looking into coverage of city affairs. A marginal player.
An excellent recap of how the present city of Mission Viejo administration eliminated transparency of their governmental actions.
Bradley Fikes is a co-blogger on the [A Brief History] web site. He is also an excellent science reporter and runs the science blogs for his newspaper.
Just spoke today with a new friend and long time resident of Mission Viejo who is so grateful for the Dispatch and MV blogs that give another side of MV’s ongoing story that you won’t hear from City Hall.
