MacLean Recall: City Clerk Approves Petition Format

by MissionViejoDispatch.com on March 18, 2009

City Clerk Karen Hamman today approved the format of the petition to be used for gathering signatures in the  Lance MacLean recall.  Supporters of the recall will have until August 25, 2009 to gather valid signatures of 15% of Mission Viejo’s registered voters.

MV has over 61,000 registered voters, so about 9,200 signatures will be required to qualify the recall for an election ballot.  A significant number of additional signatures are generally obtained in anticipation of potential disqualification of some by the County Registrar.

The other legal requirements for the recall procedure were already in place.  The proponents had served notice to MacLean of their intent to recall him with reasons for the action, and they published a legal notice in the newspaper.  MacLean filed an answer to the notice.  Hamman’s latest job was just to review the language, typfaces and other details of the petition which voters will sign.
