Letter: SVUSD’s Bad Faith Tactics

by MissionViejoDispatch.com on September 1, 2010

The  District  forgot  to mention the deep unfair cuts that they have been offering is the reason why we didn’t settle last year. It was not because we didn’t want to take a two year reduction like the teachers did. The District has not once offered a fair share reduction to classified employees. [Re: SVUSD cuts $4 Million]

CSEA has filed a suit against the District for Unfair Labor Practice alleging that the District has bargained in bad faith in the negotiations by taking an unlawfully inflexible position, making regressive proposals and for making proposals to CSEA that are predictably unacceptable and intended to frustrate the bargaining process.

What happened to “do it for the kids”? Union and many in admin only care about themselves. Their selfishness makes getting a good public education nearly impossible.

The politics are definitely ingrained in the fabric of the schools as much as other organizations. However, as a classified employee, I have to say that the furlough days and pay cuts are felt more. I don’t make that much anyhow and I am kept at part time to reduce the medical benefits burden on the district. I have worked at the district for 10 years and can never expect to see a full time position with benefits so I am forced to look for another part time job to supplement. I could change positions to get a full time shift, but I really like my present job and position and love working with the kids. What will be will be for now, but I think everyone is suffering financially right now because the cuts seem to be across the board. I am not sure that a lawsuit is the answer other than making a point, however I do not understand the bargaining issues as much as the people who are assigned to bargain and negotiate for contract fairness. I am thankful to have a job and hope things begin to look up in 2011.
