Diablos #1: Seven Players Earn Top 100 Rank

   The CIF preseason football poll released today (Tues) ranks Mission Viejo No. 1 in the Pac-5.  Following are the top 10 and their leagues:

  1. Mission Viejo (South Coast)
  2. Mater Dei (Trinity)
  3. Servite (Trinity)
  4. Poly/Long Beach (Moore)
  5.  Lakewood (Moore)
  6. Los Alamitos (Sunset)
  7. Edison (Sunset)
  8. Bishop Amat (Serra)
  9. Newport Harbor (Sunset)
  10. San Clemente (South Coast)

Seven Diablo football players have been ranked in the preseason Top 100 by OCVarsity.  They are:

Diablo Top 100 Tre Madden DL QB 3 Jr   Tre Madden is an outstanding defensive linebacker who will act as a ‘wildcat’ and backup quarterback this year.  The senior was ranked the No. 2 player in OC.

Diablo top 100 Alex Bridgford jr qb   Alex Bridgford, a junior, will succeed his older brother Allan in the quarterback position.  Allan is now playing at Cal.

Diablo top 100 Jon King OL   Jon King will anchor the offensive line at center.  The senior can also play as outside linebacker.

Diablo top 199 Ethan Desilva   Ethan DeSilva was ranked in the OC Varsity Top 100 for his speed in the defensive backfield.  He is a senior.

Diablo Dallas Kessman RB   Dallas Kessman has been a productive power running back.  He is a senior coming off an injury from last year.

Mitch Melugin DL Sr   Mitch Melugin is a 6’2″ 230lb defensive end. The senior is a critical element in a strong secondary.

Diablo Topp 100 Riley Detrick DL Jr 44   Riley Detrick digs in as a 5’10″ 245lb defensive tackle.  The senior was the only Diablo def. inside lineman in the rankings.

   The team is traveling to Seattle this week to clash with Bothell High School in Qwest Stadium.  Bothell was undefeated in league (5-0) and overall play (9-0) last year, ending 12-1 after the State Semi-Final 4A game.  Mission, ranked 2nd in OC this year by OCVarsity and 6th in SoCal by Maxpreps, was 13-1 last year.  Here’s the season schedule:

  • Sept. 4 vs. Bothell at Qwest Field, Seattle
  • Sept. 10 vs. Loyola at L.A. Valley College
  • Sept.16 vs. Corona (SoCal #9)
  • Sept. 24 vs. Long Beach Poly (SoCal #11) at Veterans Stadium
  • Oct. 1 vs. Carson
  • Oct. 8 vs. Redlands East Valley
  • *Oct. 15 vs. Dana Hills (OC #9)
  • *Oct. 29 at San Clemente (OC #10)
  • *Nov. 5 at Tesoro
  • *Nov. 12 vs. Trabuco Hills
