The Diablos won Thursday’s rubber match against the cross-town rival Cougars, 72-57. The home court victory evened the score after Capo won on its floor last month by 3 points. The game left the two teams as co-champions of the South Coast League with 7-1 records.
After the game a coin flip won by Mission gave them the top standing for purposes of seeding teams for the CIF playoffs. Generally the highest seeded teams encounter the lowest seedest teams in the early rounds of the playoff bracket.
Capo (22-4) has topped Mission (23-3) in most rankings during the regular season, but Thursday’s outcome could reverse their positions.
