It was a sizzling 49-13 victory for Mission Viejo over Bothell Saturday night in Quest Stadium where former USC Coach Pete Carrol now paces the sidelines for the Seattle Seahawks.  Bothell was 12-1 last year and rated 2nd this year in the 4A Division.

The contest highlighted the day’s 5-game Emerald Classic, which featured eight top Washington teams before the Mission Viejo v Bothell nightcap. The game started late, about 9pm, after a morning with fog and rain. At game time the weather was clear but cool.

Although tied 7-7 after the first quarter, Mission dominated thereafter, running the score to 49-7 before Bothell’s backup quarterback threw an 18-yard TD with two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.  The Cougar’s starting QB was limited to 3 pass completions on 13 attempts for a total of 29 yards.

Tre Madden started at quarterback for Mission, but soon returned to his linebacker position, turning the offensive duties over to first-string left-handed quarterback Alex Bridgford.  The Diablos gained more than 330 yards with a balanced rushing and passing attack.

Mission Viejo was plagued by penalties, but consistently overcame long yardage for first downs.
