Silverado Wants To Join SVUSD To Re-open School

by MissionViejoDispatch.com on September 24, 2009

Parents of a closed MV school view the Saddleback School District as a nemesis, while parents of a closed Silverado school see the same District as a potential savior.

Mission Viejo is suing SVUSD for closing O’Neill Elementary School, but parents of Silverado students want to join SVUSD if they can secede from the Orange School District.  The Silverado parents hope the transfer to SVUSD, if approved, would facilitate re-opening their school, according to the Register.

SVUSD closed two elementary schools in Mission Viejo this year, and Superintendent Fish has stated more schools may need to be closed in the future due to declining enrollments and budget cutbacks.  Those were the reasons given for the closings at O’Neill and La Tierra in Saddleback District, and for the closing of Silverado in the Orange District.
