Yesterday 120 boys and girls teed off at Casta del Sol Golf Course in a Southern California PGA Juniors Event. The PGA provides affordable competition for juniors at numerous events throughout the year. Alumni of the PGA ‘junior tour’ include Tiger Woods and Paula Creamer.
Competition is categorized in four age categories between ages 9 and 18, although the junior division also includes programs for 7 and 8-year-olds. Players select their own events and earn cumulative points and rankings as the year progresses. Member enrollment is conducted online at scpgajrtour.com.
Chase Dinsmore, whose home course is Mission Viejo Country Club, placed second at Casta in the 14-15 year-old category by shooting a 59, which is one-under-par for men. The other boys’ results were (girls’ scores not yet available):

The 2008 Junior America’s cup tournament was won by both the boys and girls from the Southern California division. The California State Junior Championship, played two weeks ago in Fresno, also belongs to Southern California.
