mission-hospital-art-crop    Artists  have  discovered   the creative potential of high-tech science at Mission Hospital.

In a collaborative endeavor, the Hospital will allow the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art to use its imaging equipment to prepare an innovative art exhibit.

The technology includes 3- and 4-D ultrasound, mammography, digital radiology, computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and conventional X-rays.

“This exciting exhibit combines two very different but very fascinating worlds of science and art,” said Joseph Gagliardo, executive director of imaging services and innovative technologies at Mission Hospital. “The images used in the artwork are captured by the very same imaging equipment that saves lives every day. Through this exhibit, our advanced diagnostic equipment now gives life to art, too.”

Nearly two dozen OCCCA artists are creating pieces for The Art of Imaging in anticipation of the new patient care tower currently under construction at Mission Hospital. Upon its opening, slated for fall of 2009, the patient care tower will house some of the most state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging equipment in the world.

OCCCA will exhibit the art  from February 5th to 27th at its location at 117 North Sycamore in Santa Ana, Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
